OpenBox Athletics Community Fitness

We believe that fitness and the health benefits that accompany regular exercise should be available to all people. These values are reflected in the community and culture that we have cultivated since opening on Washington Avenue in 2017. The goal of OpenBox Athletics was never to stop providing access to fitness at the four walls of our facility. The goal was to create lasting health benefits in our Philadelphia community.

OpenBox Athletics Community Fitness is our community outreach program. The benefits of this program will be largely directed towards financially impaired community members in the surrounding Graduate Hospital and Point Breeze neighborhoods. This under-served population disproportionately has less access to fitness, health care, and healthy food options and as a result faces rising cardiovascular/metabolic disease rates ultimately leading to loss of quality of life and a lower average life expectancy. Providing opportunities can lead to education and lifestyle change. The health benefits will follow suit.

  • Community Fitness Classes - These bi-weekly classes will be reserved for the public. There is no charge for these classes but we do require advance registration to hold the spot and complete a liability waiver. Our current schedule and registration link can be found here.

  • Sponsored Gym Memberships - A limited number of partially and fully sponsored gym memberships available to community members who have financial needs based on a sliding scale. These memberships will consist of access to either our O.B.A.FiT or O.B.A. COLIDR programs, as well as our yoga classes. If you would like to be considered for a sponsored gym membership or would like to nominate someone for same, please fill out this application form here.

  • Fitness Mentorship - Available to students or young adults, this program will provide an opportunity to learn from our coaching and management staff about fitness training and gym operations.

  • Fundraising - Since our inception, we have actively supported Arthur, Stanton, and Childs elementary schools. We will continue to provide support for these schools as well as choose a local partner annually to benefit from bi-annual fundraising events.
